The Greatest Lasagna Pan in the Universe.

About

Best Bakeware in the U.S. of A.

We are Baker's Edge - a small bakeware company that makes stuff here in the USA.  That's no small feat in this industry!  Yep, we make all of our pans in the Midwest and we wouldn't have it any other way.

Most folks know us for our Edge Brownie Pan.  Our quirky Edge Brownie Pan took the world by storm and has been featured in all sorts of unexpected places over the last few years.

Swimming!Swimming!

The Simple Lasagna Pan

Our less famous pan - The Simple Lasagna Pan was THE BEST PAN for LASAGNA.  It was designed specifically FOR LASAGNA.  No other company in history had set out with a "form follows function" approach to making lasagna.  We literally spent years designing, tweaking, prototyping, and testing to get it juuuuussssst right (you should see some of the failed prototypes...)....and get it right, we did.

THEN WE LEARNED...PEOPLE DON'T MAKE A LOT OF LASAGNA.

We hit the marketplace online, catalogs, and bricks and mortars to slowly learn...NOT A LOT OF HOME BAKERS MAKE LASAGNA!!!!!!!  As a result, we didn't sell many of these pans.

Need proof?  We call it the "grocery story" (free business lesson):

Walk the baking aisle in any grocery store.  The shelf space dedicated to products will tell you EXACTLY what people make at home.  Cakes, brownies, muffins mixes, toppings etc.  Super dedicated area.

Where do you find the noodles to make lasagna?  Tiny area, lower shelf, pasta area.  2-4 different options.  THAT IS A SIGN.

Then...on top of sort of sleepy sales the tool set used to make these pans broke.

This mold set is expensive, and now has a huge crack, so it doesn't work. Fun fact, it also weighs as much as a small car. This mold set is expensive, and now has a huge crack, so it doesn't work. Fun fact, it also weighs as much as a small car.

The cost to fix this tool would not be a good investment given how many Simple Lasagna Pans we sell annually.  As a result - the pan was retired.

EXPANSIVE!

THEN...as if from another planet!  A Syfy Network original series called "The Expanse" (https://www.syfy.com/theexpanse) had some scenes featuring Space Marines baking lasagna in space IN ONE OF OUR PANS.

And "voila"...people seemed to care again!

WHY KICKSTARTER? WHY NOW?

We have opted to do a Kickstarter in hopes that interest is truly high enough for us to fix our tool set, and bring the Simple Lasagna Pan back to life!  Without this sort of venue - it would not be economically feasible for us to re-invest in this product.

So in short - prove the world wrong!  Give our 2nd pan a 2nd life!  Perhaps this renewed interest will make our Simple Lasagna Pan the cultural icon it always deserved to be?  At the very least - it will be a final chance for those that want to own a Simple Lasagna Pan to actually get one!

Via this Kickstarter you will be able to save our Simple Lasagna Pan - and will be one of the few people to have a Simple Lasagna Pan by THIS BAKING SEASON.

We are doing this effort now - with the understanding that we will have time to fix the tool, produce units, package them, and ship them to arrive BEFORE December 25, 2019!

If you just happened to arrive here and want to know "What exactly IS the Simple Lasagna Pan"?  Well...

THIS IS WHY WE THINK THE SIMPLE LASAGNA PAN IS THE BEST LASAGNA PAN (IN THE UNIVERSE):

(via BakersEdge.com):

Simply better lasagna

Nothing is more satisfying than a homemade, fresh-from-the-oven lasagna. But in a conventional pan, the dish sure can get sloppy in a hurry. After the first few servings are removed, the layers slump, the noodles, slide, and that formerly picture-perfect lasagna usually begins to look...well, a lot less appetizing. (You’ll know you’re in trouble when your dinner guests put down their forks and reach for their spoons.)

Our Simple Lasagna Pan offers a simple solution. The pan’s unique sidewalls keep the noodles and layers neatly stacked, regardless of how many portions are removed. Lasagna also bakes more consistently in the Simple Lasagna Pan because more heat is circulated to the pan's middle, where food typically takes longer to bake. It's a far more precise way to bake, and the last serving will always look (and taste) as good as the first.

Sized to fit standard box noodles, the Simple Lasagna Pan is 50% larger than our Edge Brownie Pan and almost three inches wider. It's made of heavy duty cast aluminum for superior durability, and the silicone-based nonstick coating releases even the stickiest foods with ease. The oversized handles are an easy grab, even for an oven mitt, and the pan comes complete with a flexible nylon spatula. (We designed it to fit the pan perfectly.) Like all Baker's Edge products, the Simple Lasagna Pan is manufactured, packaged, and warehoused entirely in the USA.

Risks and challenges

With any Kickstarter there is some risk. In THIS case the risk is sort of minimal. We are a bakeware company that has had many successful product launches - and we are experts at production, packaging, shipping, and logistics. For this effort -the biggest risk factor is timing. We have lined up the tooling company (in Iowa) to bring our production line back up and running. However...our timeline is based upon their work and progress. They can and will fix our Simple Lasagna Pan tool set if we pay them - but if they take on new projects prior to us releasing their work - we could find out we have a few weeks of waiting for them to do this work. We are starting this effort now to ensure we have ample time to make deliveries prior to the Holiday Season (also known as baking season).
