Manual is a design studio that creates objects that celebrate slowness. Our latest collection is a series of ceramic vessels intended to contribute to this idea of living at a slower pace.
Each piece in the collection offers an everyday utility—storage, serving, and vibes.
The pure ceramic forms finished in a matte black glaze are intended to humbly blend into the landscape of your home.
The crock lids create a bold visual contrast while offering an intuitive resting spot for utensils and objects.
The lids also feature rubber seals to ensure freshness of the contents within.
Each piece can be used in a multitude of ways throughout your home—from the kitchen to the living spaces and beyond.
Ultimately we want our designs to integrate into your daily life, each use bringing you small—maybe even unnoticed—moments of joy.

▲ The Burn Plate is a saucer intended for use with incense, candles, sage or palo santo. The plate design keeps hot embers away from surfaces, while also providing a home for extinguished matches. A matchbook or lighter slips underneath the foot of the plate to keep it hidden from view.

▲ The Small Crock was designed with sugar in mind, and works just as well with salt, spices, and forgotten ephemera. The lid is a perfect home for a small spoon.

▲ The Medium Crock was designed as a countertop butter crock—and is also suited for tea, spices, salt, matches, and odd miscellany. There's something deeply pleasing about running your fingers down the milled grooves.

▲ The Large Crock was designed to hold a 12 ounce bag of coffee beans—and is also great for granola, coffee filters, rice, beans, popcorn, and imported dry goods. One could even imagine using the lid as a trivet in a pinch.

▲ The Mug was designed to hold hot liquids such as coffee or tea—however will likely work well for beverages of other temperatures. There's an undeniably relaxing feeling when you run your thumb down the top of the handle where it seamlessly meets the lip of the cup. It just feels right.

▲ The Creamer was designed for milk-based products—and works surprisingly well for non-dairy products as well. We used to feel snobby about cream in our coffee, but then we realized that we were happier when we didn't have such strong opinions.

Each piece is individually listed as a reward. If you would like multiples, simply multiply your pledge by the quantity you would like, and we will work out the logistics on our end.
We created sets to to offer multiple pieces at a discount. If you pledge for a set and would like to add other pieces, simply add up the appropriate amount and pledge!
After the campaign we will use Backerkit (or a similar service) to allow you to clarify which pieces you pledged for and add any additional pieces or shippings costs.

We have spent the past year working with our long-term manufacturing partners to prototype the collection, price out the designs, create samples, iterate designs, create packaging, and get our supply chain lined up.
Early 3D prints and factory samplesWe have already started manufacturing ahead of this Kickstarter campaign so that we can complete all the products before the upcoming Chinese New Year, when all factories shut down for around 6 weeks. If all goes to plan, these products will be en route to our Chicago warehouse as you read this, so we'll be able to start shipping to backers shortly after the Kickstarter ends!
January - Manufacturing begins, Kickstarter campaign launches
February - Collection is en route to the US from China, Kickstarter ends
March - Collection passes through customs, enters Chicago warehouse, prepared for fulfillment
April - Shipping begins!

The 2019 Ceramics Collection was designed by Manual founder and creative director, Craighton Berman, a designer with the distinction of having work in the permanent collection of the Art Institute of Chicago as well as being the first designer to use Kickstarter to launch a product back in 2010.
